History of Qatar
Human habitation in the Qatar Peninsula dates back to around 4000 BC, as per the archaeological evidence. Qatar was mostly populated by Bedouin tribes and a few fishing communities for generations.
The establishment of the town of Al-Zubārah marks the beginning of Qatar's modern history in 1766. Over the years it has evolved into an important economic outpost. In the earlier days, before the discovery of oil and gas, the main source of Qatar's economy was pearl diving, fishing, and trading.
The modern state of Qatar has witnessed rapid growth since its commencement on September 3, 1971, when it declared its independence after British Protectorate from 1916.
Geography
Qatar is a peninsula with a 563-kilometer shoreline stretching out along the western coast of the Arabian Gulf. To the south, the country shares an 87-kilometer land border with Saudi Arabia. Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran are located nearby.
The country is known for its flat, arid desert landscape. Qatar has desert weather, with hot summers and mild winters all year. The average monthly temperature ranges from 17°C in January to 36°C in July, with summertime highs of 40°C or more. Between October and March, the average annual rainfall is 70 mm, and it comes in small showers, rarely interrupting outdoor activities.
